About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a thrilling Premier League encounter at St James' Park, Newcastle secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Manchester United. The match was a closely contested affair, with both teams having their moments, but it was Newcastle who emerged victorious thanks to a last-minute goal by substitute William Daugaard Osula. The game began with both sides showing attacking intent, but it was Manchester United who struck first. Casemiro (GAP +3.1%) opened the scoring right before halftime, giving the visitors a crucial lead. However, Newcastle responded almost immediately, with Anthony Gordon (GAP -1.3%) leveling the score just before the break. The second half saw Newcastle reduced to ten men after Jacob Ramsey received a red card in the 45th minute, adding a layer of complexity to their tactical approach. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Newcastle's resilience shone through. The home side's manager made strategic substitutions, including the introduction of William Daugaard Osula, who ultimately became the hero by netting the decisive goal in the 90th minute. In terms of lineup changes, Newcastle made two alterations from their previous match, bringing in Harvey Barnes (GAP +1.2%) and Aaron Ramsdale (GAP -4.2%), while Nick Pope and Nick Woltemade were left out. Manchester United made a single change, with Noussair Mazraoui (GAP -1.8%) coming in for Diogo Dalot. The Game Advantage Percentage (GAP) statistics highlighted several key performances. Joelinton (GAP +4.4%) and Bryan Mbeumo (GAP +4.5%) were particularly influential, contributing significantly to their respective teams' efforts. This result is a significant boost for Newcastle, who are looking to consolidate their position in the top half of the table. For Manchester United, the defeat is a setback in their pursuit of European qualification, as they continue to struggle for consistency. Post-match reactions from fans and pundits have praised Newcastle's fighting spirit and tactical adaptability, especially after going down to ten men. The away side will need to regroup quickly to maintain their challenge for a top-four finish.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
